KCHK (99.3 MHz) is a commercial FM Radio station in Fresno, California. The station is owned by Quintana Media Group and it broadcasts a CHR/Top 40 format, utilizing the brand "Chic". The station's studios and offices are located in the Greater Fresno area with its sister stations.

History[]

KRBM signed on the air on April 1, 1985. Since that day, it has been broadcasting a Country format.

"El Sol" and "Play"[]

On July 8, 2009, KRBM flipped to Spanish AC as "El Sol 99.3". On June 28, 2012, the station flipped to Bilingual CHR, billed as "Play 99.3" with a mostly English-language presentation with some Spanish Pop hits, targeting bilingual and younger Hispanics. The last song of the "El Sol" format was "El Sol No Regresa" by La 5a Estación while the first song on the new "Play" was Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO. A similar move also occurred in Houston with sister station KSAM dropping their News/Talk format to Bilingual Top 40 that same day.

La Kalle[]

La Kalle 99.3 (2014-2020)

On October 1, 2014, the station flipped to Spanish CHR with the branding "99.3 La Kalle" and played 9,930 songs in a row.

In April 2017, the format moved to sister KSSF, replacing its Mainstream Rock format. KRBM merged to Spanish Hot AC, keeping the "La Kalle" brand.

On November 9, 2020, after playing "Suerte" by Shakira. KRBM flipped to Spanish Rhythmic AC as "La X 99.3" launching with "Oye Mi Canto" by N.O.R.E. and "Ella y Yo" by Don Omar. The new format played Reggaeton, Bachata, Cubaton hits from the 1990's to today, and will not play Soft Pop like its "Máxima" predecessor. A similar move also occurred in New York with sister station WAST-FM dropping their Spanish Hot AC format to Spanish Rhythmic AC that same day. The "La Kalle" branding moved to sister station KJFA.

Chic 99.3[]

"La X" would only last for more than two months before Quintana pulled the plug on them on January 29, 2019. On the same day KRBM flipped to a Female-oriented Modern AC format as "Chic 99.3". It becomes the second station owned by Quintana to use the "Chic" brand and its format, the other being KMYX in San Diego, who in fact, flipped to the format the day prior. In January 2019, KRBM changed its callsign to KCHK to reflect the change.

On March 6, 2020, Fresno experience a major radio format shift. Quintana moved KZFN's Top 40 format to KCLS for sports. KCLS's Hot AC format moved to KCHK, replacing its Modern AC format.
