WCVS (99.7 MHz) is a Top 40/CHR radio station located in Burlington, Vermont and Plattsburgh, New York. WCVS is owned by Cox Media Group. Serving the entire Champlain Valley region, the station's studios and offices are located in Plattsburgh, New York.

History[]

Christian and Smooth Jazz formats[]

WCVS signed on the air in the early summer of 1990 as WHJL. It was owned by Salem Communications and broadcasted a Christian Contemporary format. Known as "WHJL 100" (which the call sign meant WHere Jesus Lives), the format would last until 1993, as Salem sold the station to Nationwide Communications. That same year, WHJL flipped to Smooth Jazz as "V-99.7" and introducing the WLYV call sign. Just a year later, Nationalwide sold the station to RB Media (now known as Quintana Media Group).

AMP 99.7[]

Since late 2008, listeners believed that WLYV would undergo a format change, as the station quietly started playing different formatted songs in the background. RB stated that it was "technical problems" and it will be resolved soon. The audio went back to normal, but the "problem" returned on May 2009.

It wasn't until a month later that the station would change to its current Top 40 format. On July 15 at 4PM, "V" ended with "Still A Friend Of Mine", and "AMP" launched with "I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas. The call sign was changed to the current WCVS.

Changes in Ownership[]

On March 14, 2019, Quintana and Cox Media Group announced in which Quintana's Champlain Valley and Salt Lake City stations would be sold to Cox, in order to expand that company to the farther northeast and the midwest. Cox began operating WCVS and its sisters under a local marketing agreement on March 18. The FCC approved the purchase on both markets and all the stations were consummated by Cox on the 31st.
